Visit Glendalough and a Traditional Wicklow Village
Join one of Trip Advisor’s top rated day trips from Dublin, the Wicklow Mountains Tour, and fall in love with Ireland (if you haven’t already!)
With two main stops and a number of photo-stops along the Wicklow Mountains route, you’ll be spoiled with photo opportunities all day (with stops at locations featured in movies like P.S. I Love You, Vikings and Braveheart to name a few.)
Wicklow’s green mountainous landscape and glacial lakes, heather fields and bog lands will become some of your most treasured memories of Ireland, guaranteed! The tour starts with a coffee stop at Glencree Valley, with its German military prisoner cemetery, then on past the gorgeous heather and bog landscape of the Sally Gap before a second shorter photo stop at Lough Tay, also known as the Guinness Lake, for its murky dark water and white beach.
Then onto the first of two main stops at Glendalough. Situated in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains, the 10th century monastic round tower settlement is the jewel in the crown of the Gray Line Wicklow Mountains Tour. Learn about the Irish missionary monks that once lived here and their unique art of creating handcrafted religious manuscripts. Think, the Book of Kells and the famous Irish Celtic cross as examples of such workmanship. With leisurely (or more challenging) walkways to the lower and upper lakes, Glendalough is a must-see for any visitor to Ireland. Make sure you have your camera (and walking shoes) at the ready!
Next stop – lunch at a picturesque Irish village in a traditional Irish pub which is located in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains. Enjoy a hearty Irish lunch or brunch (whatever takes your fancy), remembering the fact that all Gray Line passengers are entitled to avail an exclusive meal deal for just €10 per person. Lunch can be washed down with an Irish whiskey or a creamy pint of Guinness; it’s up to you, but be sure to end your tour with a toast raised to new friends made – “uisce beatha” which translates to the water of life! (Otherwise known as whiskey in Irish).
~Tours depart daily at 09:15h. Tour duration is around 8 hours. Returning 17.45h approximately*.
*Please note: while Gray Line Ireland strives to keep to route and timetable, weather conditions and circumstances beyond their control may mean they have to alter the route or timetable slightly, but you are guaranteed to have a wonderful day regardless!
