Phoenix Park could be closed for motorists - Dublin Visitor Centre

Phoenix Park may start being closed for motorists

The main road through Phoenix Park could be closed to motorists!

No, it is not a joke! The Office of Public Works has suggested closing Chesterfield Avenue in Phoenix Park making way for a railway.

If these plans happened, that road would be closed for every motorist and would be only accessed by a driverless shuttle bus or train.

This road is often used as a shortcut by motorists from Castleknock, the Navan Road and the surrounding areas.

According to Fianna Fáil Councillor Howard Mahony, “the planned shuttle service would not be a “suitable substitution for the closure of the avenue.”
