Oldest surviving film footage of Dublin city

Looking for something different to do during your visit to Dublin? If you have a special interest in old film footage and in seeing scenes of Dublin from over one hundred years ago you’re in for a treat this month.

View some of the oldest surviving film footage of Dublin, dated 1897, and scenes of life in 19th century Dublin. The footage, is just a snippet of a 30 minute film called ‘Ireland: Birth of a Nation’ shot by the Lumiere brothers. ‘Birth of a Nation’ is showing daily at the Royal College of Physicians, 6 Kildare Street, Dublin 2 (see Dublin map) , until 31 October.
