The first of February marks the beginning of spring in Ireland!
Even if it is nearly snowing at the moment in Ireland, today we celebrate the first day of spring: The Saint Brigid’s day!
A bit of History: Saint Brigid of Kildare was one of the most important female saints in Ireland. She was a nun, abbess and foundress of many monasteries. The 1st of February was initially a pagan festival called Imbolc, which marked the beginning of spring. Traditionally School children made St. Bridgit’s crosses out of reeds to remember this wonderful Pagan and Christian saint.
