Dublin Tradfest 2015 – the best winter warmer in town
It’s less than a week until Tradfest 2015 kicks off! With such a great array of artists performing, it’s hard to suggest an itinerary. The Dublin Visitor Centre team have managed to put together a list of the 3 Dublin Tradfest 2015 must see acts.
This traditional music festival kicks off on January 28th with a fantastic concert in Dublin City Hall on Dame Street. DeBarra take to the stage with their signature combination of lively dance tunes, airs and original compositions. This third generation of family performers have toured with Irish legends like Clannad, Slide, Dervish and Damien Dempsey, to name a few and have entertained audiences across American and Europe.
Usually know for the macabre mummified remains in it’s crypt, St. Michan’s Church on Church Street will play host to the thrilling Cara Dillon & Band on Friday January 30th. An accomplished trad musician, Cara breezes past genre boundaries and plays a mixture of styles that, in her own words, ‘strikes a note in my heart’. Raised in the world of Irish traditional music, Dillon has being performing since the tender age of five and has collaborated with the Czech Philharmonic and Ulster Orchestras. A concert not to be missed.
While not exactly a Trad act, Derry Punk band The Undertones will be rocking Dublin’s Button Factory on Friday January 30th. Formed in 1977, Ireland’s most successful Punk/New Wave act reformed in 1999 to regale us with wonderful hits like Teenage Kicks and My Perfect Cousin. This show promises to be the most high octane gig of Tradfest 2015 and a must see for 70’s & 80’s music aficionados.
No matter which acts you see, the Dublin Tradfest 2015 promises to be the best winter warmer in town.
