Check out Dublin’s new Canalaphonic Festival
Dublin fun in the sun kicks off this May with the first ever Canalaphonic Festival! 22 of our favourite local bars, coffee shops and venues will be getting in on the act as Dublin’s Portobello and Rathmines become the centre of the city for two days only!
Canalaphonic days will be family friendly! The Inland Waterways Association of Ireland’s Dublin Rally is due to dock in the heart of the fun on Saturday afternoon bringing its barges and passengers ready to join in the festivities. Art and craft exhibitions, markets and pop up acoustic sets will entertain the crowds while a boutique market will open at Portobello Harbour from 11 – 9pm. Childrens’ activities take place at the front of St Mary’s College and barge trips will be running until sun down, when the real fun begins!
Canalaphonic nights are the real draw and Friday and Saturday nights will see some of Dublin’s trendiest bars hosting independent musicians, artists and performers, with loads of gigs covering nearly every genre of music. This is where the location really comes into its own – Portobello and Rathmines are known vibrant student neighbourhoods and the pubs and clubs are as varied as they are interesting – read more here. The two outdoor stages will host bands playing into the wee hours of the night giving you plenty of opportunity to listening to the tunes and settle into the canal pace of life. Local eateries will be offering discounted prices to festival goers and Mother Reilly’s will be hosting the Oxjam event, sponsored by Oxfam.
Canalaphonic is shaping up to be the kick start to Dublin’s Summer of Festivals 2015 so join in to what promises to be one of the most unique and cool events happening in Dublin this May.
Canalaphonic will take place on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th May, throughout Portobello and Rathmines. Need a place to stay? We have a blog on that! Stop by the Dublin Visitor Centre for more info on great things to do during your stay.
