Bloomsday enthusiasts will be out in force to celebrate the life and work of Dublin’s favourite wordsmith James Joyce from the 11th – 16th of June. The highlight of the 2018 Festival will be on Saturday the 16th when Revellers dressed in Edwardian attire, commemorate Leopold Bloom’s famous journey throughout Dublin along the way. Immerse yourself in the wonderful world of James Joyce & celebrate with the Bloomsday Vintage Bus Tour.
Celebrate Bloomsday Edwardian-Style!
Senator David Joyce will be on hand to see off the Joycean revellers from the Hugh Lane Gallery. James Joyce’s writing is littered with references to his hometown including the GPO, Sweny’s Pharmacy & Merrion Square where Joyce arranged to meet Nora Barnacle for their first date! Retrace his steps around his beloved hometown Dublin with a live guided tour around the landmarks immortalised in Ulysses and the Dubliners.
Your live guide will be on board to regale you with amusing anecdotes of Joycean Dublin as well as some extracts of Joyce’s masterpiece Ulysses. Following its’ journey through the heart of Dublin, the Bloomsday Vintage Bus will continue on to the Glasnevin Cemetery. Join the costumed mourners to recreate the funeral procession of ‘Hades’ from Joyce’s novel ‘Dubliners’. Explore the Hibernian necropolis final resting place of over 100 characters from Ulysses.
